Gardens for all Seasons

Gardens should be lovely and enjoyable all year round. We will explore simple and practical practices used during the design and maintenance process to ensure your gardens are show stoppers without compromising sustainability and environmental impacts. Together we will develop a shift in perspective as we explore how to garden for all seasons.

Owner of Frankenmuth Florist

“Flowers make everyone happy,” Hopp said. “From the time you’re born until death: It’s flowers.”
You need only to walk down Main to experience the works of the Frankenmuth Florist.
The owners’ son, Dan Hopp, 27, also works at the shop, and from February through May, he’s busy preparing more than 300 hanging baskets for the city. The petunias — all in shades of pink, purple and white — will hang throughout the city starting about Mother’s Day. The shop also provides many of the planter boxes for Frankenmuth businesses such as the Bavarian Inn and Drury Inn, Dan Hopp said.

Topic: Wicked Weeds and What to Do

Picture
Weeds are a nuisance we all battle. This presentation will detail the life cycles of weeds and how understanding our enemy can lead to more strategic control efforts, i.e., cultural, mechanical, and chemical.  We will focus on weeds of interest to the participants’ based on their experiences.

Education and Experience

Dr. Erin Hill serves as the weed science diagnostician for Michigan State University Plant and Pest Diagnostics. She is responsible for plant identification, assessing abiotic plant injury, and herbicide resistance screening for the diverse plant industries and clients in the state. Erin also serves as the instructor for two weed science courses. She is a native Michigander who grew up here in Genesee County in Grand Blanc. Erin holds degrees in plant science from both MSU and U of M, therefore she will respond accordingly to both ‘Go Green!’ and ‘Go Blue!’

If you plan on attending the conference, Dr. Hill will answer some of your weed questions.  Weed picures may be sent to MGAGCM2014@gmail.com
